Behavior Policy

Your child is not perfect and neither is mine!

1) Just because our children sometimes act like wild animals doesn't mean that we have to. Moms should always treat other moms in the group with respect. Demonstrate correct behavior for your child.
2) Teaching your child to share and respect others is not always easy. If your child is doing the right thing today, don't forget that your child could be the one acting up tomorrow. Please be patient with other moms and children.

What do we do when our children don't respect others at playdates?

  • First Offense: Have your child apologize to the other child. Make sure that the mom of the other child is aware of what happened AND that you apologize to the other mother.
  • Second Offense: Have your child apologize to the other child. Apologize to the other mother again. Bring your child into a private area (another room) and handle situation privately. You know your child best and what discipline method works best for your family. Sometimes just bringing your child into a separate room is enough to get their attention.
  • Third Offense: Have your child apologize to the other child. Apologize to the other mother AND the hostess. Then remove your child from the playgroup. Take them home! Somedays are better than others. This isn't your child's day. Try again another day.

What do I do if my child consistently refused to obey or respect others at playgroups?

Voluntarily, stop coming to playgroups for one month. Take a break to deal with your child's behavior in a private setting. Bring him back when you think he is ready.

Use your best judgement:

As always, these rules are guidelines. Your child's behavior at a playgroup may warrant removal before the third offense: biting or injuring another child.

What do I do if I consistently see a child hurting other children or causing problems at playgroups?

1) Try tallking to the other mother. We are all learning how to help our children behave. Maybe she is at her wits end and needs some help.
2) Call Michele Flaherty or any AO. We are here to help you!
